On Thursday, August 1, the Paris 2024 Olympics will spotlight Simone Biles as she aims for her second gymnastics gold. Following her key role in the US women’s gymnastics team’s gold medal win on Tuesday, Biles will compete in the all-around final, a title she previously won at Rio 2016.
Biles will face tough competition from her teammate and reigning champion Sunisa Lee, while Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade could be a strong contender to challenge the Americans.
The day features 18 gold medals up for grabs, beginning with the athletics events, which include the men’s and women’s 20km race walks in the morning.
In swimming, Thursday night will see four finals, with the 200m men’s backstroke being particularly exciting as Hungary’s 2023 world champion Hubert Kos goes up against Rio 2016 gold medalist Ryan Murphy from the USA.
Additionally, Tatjana Smith and Summer McIntosh could enhance their Olympic achievements. Smith, from South Africa, is favored to win the 200m breaststroke after her 100m breaststroke gold, while Canada’s McIntosh seeks to add the 200m butterfly title to her 400m medley gold and 400m freestyle silver.
